Architecture & the economy

With the economic downturn Architecture will again suffer. No sooner do we develop a confidence in our own contemporary architecture than the capacity for creating it is most likely taken away as alot of people revert to getting things done on the cheap. Enlightened clients will be held back by funding, cautiousness and the negativity around them (and who could blame them) and talented, hard working professionals will be without work. The government aren't helping; neither are the banks. The negativity is currently all consuming. (In Dertopia the benefactorial dictator would not only be in control, he would also look and sound like he was in control. There would be no banks.)
